Cordova Speaker Series – A spiritual dimension
This theme-based video series is the foundation of the monthly Cordova Speaker Series. Folks from Cordova, Alaska speak about their passions, what drives them. But what makes these talks special is that they are so encouraging, from folks giving real-life experiences that touch us right where we live!
The Killer Whale Café, on First Street in downtown Cordova, originally hosted these talks, beginning in 2012. Free coffee was offered, along with a delicious light menu of their unforgettable wraps and sandwiches that The Killer Whale Café features. Exiting onto the main street fronting beautiful Orca Bay, attendees after these talks, like to pause to gaze out over the water. Sometimes, but not too frequently, whales appear! Always, there is the inevitable cacophony of gulls swooping down, drawn by fishing boats in the harbor.
From July, 2012, the first speakers featured are Marleen Moffitt and Deb Eckley. The two relate their rewarding, yet arduous and difficult, path to find children to love. Then, April Tiedeman shares with us about her remarkable journey from alcoholism, of how she has been given a second chance. Audrey Burton bravely relates her first-hand account of what happened when her storybook world as a child came crashing down. Then, we have Crystal Jensen giving her first-hand experience what it means to believe in miracles. Along comes Voss Efimoff, sharing two stories in 2013 and 2014, of inspirational fish tales and travels.
